it's just one long night.
The Story So Far
Mel King was born and raised in Albany, New York, spent a year of his
life in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn going to Brooklyn College, and is now
comfortably nestled at NYU. He is in Gallatin, for queer/gender theory
and grassroots organizing. He wants to change the world through
nonprofits and activism. He is most comfortable with guitar, a pen, and
paper at close reach. He plays out when it’s possible, but mostly just
rocks out at NYU queer gigs and for his friends who happen to come by
and jam. He dreams of starting a band with two guitars and a cello. Any
takers?
His guitars are a green Washburn D10 (Ophelia), a Takamine
acoustic/electric EG230 (Antigone), and a Danville Dobro Resonator
(Idgie Threadgoode). He pretty exclusively uses Martin Phosphor Bronze
Medium strings and Dunlop nylon .60 and .73 MM picks.
His musical influences include: Paddy Kilrain, Bob Dylan, Indigo Girls,
Iron & Wine, Paddy Griffin, Ani DiFranco, Jay Brannan, Jens Lekman,
Simon & Garfunkel, The Weakerthans, Jason Robert Brown, and so many
others.
His brother is also a rock star: http://www.myspace.com/thebrendanking/
